Should You Take a Trip to Turkey?

Often the question is posed to us, “If you could pick one destination as the very best, which would it be?” The answer is always the same. It was our trip to Turkey.

The responses range from an enthusiastic “I’ve heard Turkey is wonderful!” Or sometimes a quizzical head-angled reply, “Really why would that be?”

Our visit to Turkey left us forever changed. Opening our eyes and hearts to a completely different culture and language. A kindness and acceptance of the Turkish people that left us addicted to travel.

The unrest in Turkey and the travel advisories ranging from declaring nothing other absolute essential travel to Turkey, to travel with caution, leaves our hearts saddened. Almost on a daily basis we say to each other,  “Thank goodness we took that trip to Turkey when we did!”

Till the day when holidays in Turkey are safe for government travel agencies to advise, we give you some of our special moments of discovery in this magical country. We truly believe the time will come again for Turkey tourism to flourish and thrive. For now we will be patient.

Grateful Memories of a Trip to Turkey

Walk back thousands of years in Turkey where civilization dates back to Neolithic times. The lush cypress trees stand guard and deep dark red poppies add a splash of color to marble columns.

Behold Ephesus, an ancient Greek city near present day Selcuk in Izmir Province, Turkey. The city was built in the 10th century BC by Greek colonists. It came under Roman control in 129 BC.

Our trip to Turkey left us in love, or possibly addicted, to Turkish coffee. The strong java became something we looked forward to morning, noon and night. A cup of Turksih tea for those who would prefer.

Istanbul is a city of massive population, estimated between 12-18 million. How a discrepancy of 6 million or so folks can occur is puzzling indeed. Istanbul is a city of vibrancy belonging to two continents, Asia and Europe. A mix of ancient amid modern with the heavy flow of people and traffic.
