Why It’s Cool2Carpool to Mount Norquay Ski Resort

Mount Norquay is a popular ski resort located in the Canadian Rockies, just a short drive from Banff, Alberta. It’s known for its stunning views, varied terrain, and proximity to the town of Banff.

Scenic Views: The resort is renowned for its breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains and the Banff townsite.

In addition to traditional ski runs, Mount Norquay has some great off-piste areas and terrain parks. It’s known for its steep runs and challenging terrain, which appeal to advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Whether you’re hitting the slopes or just enjoying the scenery, Mount Norquay is a fantastic destination in the Canadian Rockies.

From 2011 to 2017, on these select Tuesdays, a toonie (two Canadian dollars) bought a lift ticket to slopes of the original Banff ski resort.

The not so good news comes in the form of streams of cars, buses and vans to the protected UNESCO World Heritage site of Banff National Park. As if Elvis Presley was the opening act for the Beatles, the never-ending line of vehicles climbs the winding road to Mt Norquay ski resort.

To quote a popular phrase, ‘Build it and they will come’. And come to Mount Norquay, the closest ski hill to Banff, they did so in droves.

Taking a hard look at the benefits to local charities, the savings for guests of Mount Norquay and the environmental impact to this pristine wilderness, the Norquay ski hill revised the plan.

Carpooling is the new way to be cool in Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

How does Cool 2 Carpool work?

I admit when I first heard about the idea of each carload of skiers and snowboarders paying only $89, images of my teen years flashed to present day. An additional friend or two tucked in the trunk of a car while paying entrance fees to a drive-in theater may or may not have happened on my watch.

The Mount Norquay ski hill management has thought of the potential for such shenanigans. One day each month, vehicles coming to Norquay will be met by a staff member. A card will be issued stating the number of individual tickets eligible for the total purchase price of $115.00

No traveling to Banff, Canada in the trunk my friends. Besides being dangerous you won’t save money. Lift tickets will not be issued to those cramming vehicles illegally.

Fill a van, coach, station wagon or the family car but every passenger must be legally seated with a seatbelt. No ‘how-many-people-can-you-fit-in-a-Volkswagon Beetle’ tricks permitted. Well not at Mount Norquay anyway.

What about those carpooling with Mount Norquay season pass holders? Head over to guest services and the ski lift ticket price will be adjusted accordingly.

Taking the Mount Norquay Ski Resort Shuttle

Visitors staying in the town of Banff may want to take advantage of riding the Norquay ski hill shuttle. Although seats can not be guaranteed, for those guests each lift ticket will be $20.
